ABOUT YOUTHAWARE EDUCATIONAL THEATRE
YouthAware Out & United (Y.O.U.) is a new Queer Youth Theater program based at the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco. We use “queer” as an umbrella term that refers to anyone who identifies as “outside the norm” in terms of sexual identity, political views, gender expression, etc. Y.O.U. offers a safe space for LGBTQI youth and their allies ages 14-20 to develop their unique voice through theater, and to learn from new peer perspectives that they might not experience in their own school or home life. Y.O.U. Teaching Artists work with participants to devise scenes, monologues, poems, songs, or movement based on the real experiences of queer youth at school, with their family, and in their community.
